ANIMAL PHOTOS
Whenever I traveled for work, I made sure I visited the local zoo. I wanted to take photos of animals, but at the time, travel to Africa, South America, or Asia to shoot photos of animals in situ was rare and very expensive. I made do by spending a lot of time at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. close to where I lived and the San Diego Zoo where I often traveled. The challenge was making the photos look as if the animals were NOT in a zoo, but living in the wild.
The color photos below are all taken in the animals' natural environments. In 2015 I changed back to still photography after years of taking videos (see Youtubes and DVDs).

We assumed that this smaller polar bear above was begging for food and then trying to take regurgitated food from the throat of what we assumed was a parent. However, we were unable to find this feeding behavior described anywhere we looked. In addition, the smaller bear looks too old for this behavior to occur. This is a zoo, so behavior is not always the same as in the wild but it would seem that polar bears of this size should be able to get their own food. HOW LIMPKINS EAT
This large bird is a limpkin that I photographed in Lettuce Lake Park in Tampa, Florida. It is hunting for its favorite food - large apple snails.
