When Nancy and I created and ran the Insect Zoo at the Natural History Museum, Smithsonian Institution, I got very involved in taking photos of insects. I wanted to do something with the photos that would excite other people (mostly children) to the fantastic behavior and beauty of these small creatures. A children's book seemed like the perfect vehicle. Neither Nancy nor I had had any experience writing a book, but that didn't stop us. For more on how our foray into writing and illustrating children's books turned into a second career and how and why each book was written, click on the book covers below. You and your children can also read and see the photos of each book.
