SPECIAL EFFECTS
While certainly not as quick or easy as using Photoshop today, working in the darkroom gave me the control to create the photos you see on this website. Instead of an SD card and a computer, I had to have a completely light-free room (hence the name darkroom) lit only by a red safelight. I needed an enlarger to cast the image made by a negative (the film from my camera) onto light-sensitive paper. I had 4 trays filled with chemicals to develop and fix the photos that were exposed onto the paper. I had a clothes line to dry the photos once they were finished. It sounds pretty labor intensive, which it was, but the pleasure of seeing an image appear almost magically on a piece of blank paper floating in a bath of developer was thrilling.
